From the website of TIFAC, "an autonomous organisation under Department of Science and Technology chaired by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Principal Scientific Adviser to Govt. of India, aims to keep a technology watch on global trends and formulating preferred technology options for India."

Manufacture of Lambda Cyhalothrin

Brief description

Prenol is reacted with triethyl ortho acetate and further reacted with 1,1,1 trifchlorotrifluroethane, which is further reacted with potassium tertiary butoxide and then hydrolysed to cyhalothric acid. Cyhalothric acid is converted to cyhalothrin, from which lamdacyhalothrin is prepared. This can be implemented in existing synthetic pyrethroid manufacturing unit

Applications
It is highly potent synthetic pyrethroid with wide spectrum of biological activity and is non-systemic in nature with contact and stomach action and repellent properties. It is very effective for the control of ectoparasites of cattle and good control of insect born plant viruses.
