Introduction of KOTETSU(R),
New Agricultural Insecticide

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Akira Miura)is proud to announce that it completed registration of KOTETSU as an agricultural insecticide on April 25th, and is starting sales throughout Japan for use with vegetables,tea and fruit.

KOTETSU(R) is effective against a wide range of insects. In particular, it has been proven to be very successful in controlling pesticide-resistant insects such as the Diamondback Moth, which preys on cabbage, Chinese cabbage and radishes, as well as Thysanoptera and Tetranychidae which attack vegetables, tea and fruit. Other details on the characteristics of KOTETSU are provided on the attached sheet.The active ingredient in KOTETSU(R) is a new compound called chlorfenapyr, an insecticidedeveloped by the American Cyanamid Company of the United States. Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation obtained the rights to use this new compound through a cross-license for Pyranica(R) (introduced in 1993), a tick pesticide invented by Mitsubishi. KOTETSU(R) isbeing introduced to the market, following public testing, which started in 1991, and completion of registration as an agricultural insecticide.

Mitsubishi Chemical will be importing the product, and it will be sold by the three companies listed below. Due to its effectiveness against the Diamondback Moth, which is resistant to almost all current insecticides, as well its potency for use with vegetables,tea and fruit, sales are projected to grow to approximately 5.5 billion yen (retail) in three years.
