Isle of Man
Proposal for the Fluoridation of Drinking Water

The November 20, 2007, debate between

Paul Connett, PhD
Director, Fluoride Action Network
Power Point Presentation

and

Professor Michael Lennon, OBE
Chair, British Fluoridation Society
Power Point Presentation

Two debates were held on the Isle of Man on November 20, 2007. The first took place in the Manx Parliament building during luncheon with a good percentage of the 25 MPs - or rather MHKs - (Member of the House of Keys) in attendance. Each side had 20 minutes followed by 20 minutes of questions. In the evening another debate took place in the meeting hall of the Methodist Church. This time each side had 45 minutes. Professor Lennon repeated his luncheon powerpoint presentation. The text of his powerpoint is available here, while the powerpoint version can be obtained by emailing Professor Lennon at <bfs@bfsweb.org> .

After the debate a member of the audience asked for a show of hands from those who supported the idea of fluoridating the Isle of Man. Three hands went up: Professor Lennon and two representatives of the Department of Health. When asked for a show of hands of those opposing fluoridation, the rest of the audience did so. It was estimated that approximately 120 people were present.
