1) Skeletal fluorosis can produce a wide variety of bone changes. The reason for the variability in the appearance of fluorosis is not yet fully understood.

2) There is a wide range of individual variability in the risk of developing skeletal fluorosis, and the course the disease will eventually take.

3) The risk for developing skeletal fluorosis, and the course the disease will take, can be strongly influenced by the presence or absence of predisposing factors, which include: impaired kidney function; dietary deficiencies; genetic predisposition; gastric acidity; physical/repetitive stress; and pregnancy/lactation.
